Our Story

Founded in 2018 by Directors David Graham and James McNab, JDC Shetland Ltd has grown from a small team of two to a trusted local construction company with a skilled crew of nine. This includes full-time tradesmen and apprentices. David and James both began their careers as apprentice joiners in Shetland and bring a wealth of hands-on experience to the business. David trained with E&H Contractors, briefly worked in Aberdeen, then returned to Shetland to rejoin E&H before going self-employed and forming JDC. James served his apprenticeship with JHB Ltd, followed by seven years as a foreman joiner with Irvine Contractors Ltd, managing large-scale projects across Shetland. He later completed a welder/fabricator apprenticeship with Ocean Kinetics before launching JDC alongside David.

Together, they share a passion for quality craftsmanship and a drive to build a reliable, reputable business. Their complementary skills make them a strong partnership—James takes the lead on project management, pricing, and specialist leadwork, while David focuses on detailed finishing work and managing supplier relationships. They come together on major projects and when working in Shetland’s outer isles.
